About me

01 / Montse Playà
I was born in Barcelona in 1967. From a young age I worked in a jewellery shop founded by my father, a family business. In 2015, certain events marked a turning point in my professional life and I decided to move towards the art world.
I took a painting and drawing course at “Escola de la Dona” to prepare for the entrance exam at “Escola Massana”, where I went on to study Applied Arts to the Wall. In 2019 I presented my final project and established a studio in Barcelona, where I began to develop my creativity.
02 / My work
I enjoy exploring different techniques, including oil painting, charcoal, collage, watercolour, pencil and printmaking. This is why my work does not have a single style: these tools open up a range of possibilities for expressing what I feel in different ways.
These concerns and thoughts have given rise to the abstract collections I am working on, with imagery ranging from strict geometry to entirely organic forms. I want viewers to be moved by the colours, shapes and textures of my work and to experience a connection that takes root within them.
Some of my exhibitions in Catalonia have taken place at “Galeria Mim Espais”, “Galeria Nauart” and “Casino de Caldes de Montbui”, and I have been selected by CC Pere Pruna. Elsewhere, I have exhibited at “Galería Gaudí” in Madrid and internationally at events such as “Art Fair Luxemburg”. I was also selected for the “Premi ciutat de Barcelona-Agbar 2023” competition organised by the “Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona”, and won a joint prize for designing champions’ medals for “UFEC” in 2018.
